I found a 88 GTA parts car.
Can I use the steering box and rear in my 83 Lemans?
Any other stuff that could be used in the 83?
Maybe sway bars?

Grab the steering box, front swaybar, and wheels (if they're there). The seats in those are pretty nice as well.
I guess you can use the gears and posi unit from the rear...and maybe the disc brakes. 200-4R trans.

The GTA probably has the 700-R4 transmission. If the powertrain is there and complete, it would make a fairly simple swap into your Lemans-just a thought.

The motor and transmission are there. He wants 1000 for the motor which is a bit high. The transmission probable a good one although I already have a 87 ss Monte trans 200r4 that I plan to use.
If it had the 3.27 gears that would be nice to use.
Is it a hard swap with the fuel injected engine?

I have a set of those seats in my GP, they are recaro seats and they do bolt up to the G body seat tracks but they sit a bit further forward. I also have the sway bar...

You're right about the trans being a 700-R4. I was thinking of the Turbo T/A with the GN drivetrain. The GTA is a V-8 car.

If you're thinking about a powertrain swap, then your best bet would be to use the entire powertrain (engine, transmission, wiring harness and accessories, etc.). That way, everything matches, and the swap will work better. There is a good book out called "Chevrolet TPI and TBI Engine Swapping" by Mike Knell. There is lots of great info in the book, and it mentions that this powertrain swap is pretty much a direct bolt-in on a G body, including the Firebird air cleaner assembly. Once again, just a thought.
