Can you believe the bidding for this wagon?!?

I saw the blue '80 wagon on Maliburacing. Someone posted a Craigslist link to it. It was priced out at $2950., which I thought was a smokin' deal for that car.

Why is there no turn signal stalk on the steering column? Or am i just not seeing it?

The turn signal stalk is there, only it's the early style skinny chrome job that has the wiper switch on the dash, and not on the stalk like the later style.

Well, if someone wants a super clean 4-speed Malibu wagon for 8k then that's fine. Especially if that car is going to be driven, it's pretty desirable. [rant]But I don't see the parallels when bringing up Z28 production numbers. Sure a manual trans is racy, but the wagon itself never was and never will be unless it's modified. Unique automobile? Sure. Unique factory hot rod? I don't see it. Just because it's a V8 doesn't mean it's a "muscle car."[/rant]

I didn't read the description because it was just too long. Would a 4 speed be an option or would it be standard and you paid more for an automatic? Back then auto was a cost add on to most cars but a wagon could be different. Could it be that someone was just going cheap and went with the four speed standard equipment? Clean car but going nuts over a wagon with a weezer v8 and a four speed is silly to me but I'm sure it helps the value a lot.

Edit: Looking at it again the buyer probably just liked standard transmissions because it has air and the ralley pack dash with delay wipers. I see it has manual windows but I never realized the windows on the back doors were fixed because other is no handle to row them with. Suck to be a kid in the back of that thing. It is a really clean car.

Leo,
I could see your point. Back in the day, standard shift transmissions were just that, "standard". Where as the automatic was optional. I would be curious to know if standard transmissions were in fact optional, or vice versa.
These cars in stock form did not have blistering performance, and they handled like a wallowing pig. Come to think of it, most cars built in that era were slugs.

Yea, but you wouldn't trade your slug for anything.

They were slugs Jack and handle like pigs. My Cutlass was a 305 weezer but it did ride (past tense because it has been apart so long) nice. Luckily we can do a lot for the handling and snail moving department today. I knew a kid that had a 1978 or 79 Cutlass diesel. You want to talk about slow that thing was maybe the slowest car I ever rode in. So pathetic that I would consider it a safety hazard. Still, it rode nice and looked good. 😀

Jack are those rear doors windows fixed? Was there an option to not have them that way?

Power vents would be the option, all rear windows in G bodys were fixed in place except for the hatch.

Leo,
Jeff is absolutely right. The vent windows were the only glass that moved back there, excluding the rear hatch. The side windows were fixed.
