I was wondering if there were local folks to order parts from, specifically the body mount cushions. Canadians ordering from the States probably pay at least 40% more to get them shipped to the land of ice and hockey sticks.

Try tdot performance or marken performance. I got mine from the states when the dollar was okay. I mostly deal with marken a good group of guys decent price and they are local if it cost me 5 dollars more to get it through them then summit rather them support local.

i have boughten from local performance shops but now i just order through summit as they have cheap shipping and brokerage fees built in to their shipping
sure you have to pay the shitty exchange but its still a lot cheaper
for example i just bought a set of 40 dollar ls piston rings and valve stem seals (20 bucks) and 20 bucks shipping, so 100 dollars canadian shipped to my door, i was quoted about 350 dollars plus 4-6 week long wait just for the piston rings!!!!!!!!!!

Summit + shipping is expensive
JEGS + shipping + UPS brokerage hurts
Tdot, Powerhouse, Performance Improvements ( never even heard of Marken ).... well you need to know your pricing to be sure you are not getting gouged. My exhaust gaskets are $14.00 usd, but with shipping and conversion they are listed on average at $30+$35 plus 13% hst ! I ended up using a friend with an account and got them for $25.00 ( still almost double list price )

I keep an eye on the local Kijiji, and for sale forums. This obviously takes some planning and availability is a major concern. And if I cant find what I want then I am not against pulling a price off the web and picking up the phone to see if the local companies will price match against each other. A friend turned me on to this company for his sled / atv parts. You order what you want online and have the shipper forward /drop-ship to a local US warehouse. For a small fee they will hold your goods for pickup ( he said typically its $20 / $30 ). Still get to deal with the exchange rate conversion but you save a bunch on shipping ( as it stays domestic US ) and a ton of cash on brokerage.
Buffalo is typically less than 90 mins from the GTA and $40-$50 in fuel ( we send a van there 2-3 times a week ). Depending on the location you choose they may be open on Saturday for pickup. Declare your goods at the border when coming back. From experience if your purchase is less than $200 the officer is likely to wave you thru, over that amount you may have to go into the customs office and pay the 6% GST portion of the HST ( further savings )

I know Marken Performance, he is local to me and knowledgeable with competitive pricing but seeing how the OP in in Toronto it's not cost effective to deal with him. Powerhouse is an online store but I did pick up my parts from him in Toronto I had a long conversation with him and since he has a small overhead his prices are very reasonable.

I have stuff sent in from the US on a regurlar basis. For small parts, I have them ship via USPS. It's usually a couple bucks more but gets delivered right to your door without any brokerage fees. you only par PST if value is over $60.00 and generally takes about 10 days.
For bigger items, find a UPS store just over the border close to you and have them shipped there as a hold for pick-up. I use the UPS store in Plattsburgh NY. They accept packages from UPS, FEDEX and USPS. They charge me $5.00 to hold my box. I just drive over the border, pickup my box and head back home. Make sure you tell the border services exactly where you are going and why. Like Axisg says, when you come back across the border, be truthfull with the border gards. They will have you pay your PST and you are on your way.
You can't get away from the exchange rate but you can save a lot on shipping and brokerage this way for just a couple hours of your time.
Just never never have anything shipped to your door via UPS. They will hit you with a brokerage charge on delivery and you never know how much until the driver shows up demanding a cheque.
