I'm going to be buying a trailer to haul my Cutlass to some car shows and have narrowed my search down to either Lamar or Load Trail. I was originally going to get an 18' but have since decided that a 20' would give me a little more room and more options for other vehicles. Probably going to equip it as follows:

5" Channel Frame
2-5/16" adjustable coupler
9,990lb GVWR
2 - 5,200 Lb Dexter Spring Axles (2 Elec FSA Brakes)
Multi-leaf spring suspension
3" channel 24" OC crossmembers
Removable fenders
16ga 5-way cold weather wire harness (7-way plug)
7,000lb drop leg jack
15" wheels
LED stop/tail/turn & clearance lights
2' diamond plate dove tail
Front tongue mount tool box
2" rub rail
2-5,000lb rear swivel jack supports
Spare tire & mount
Rear slide in ramps (5'x16")

Looking for advice/suggestions for changes on how I'm equipping it and any experience you've had with either Lamar or Load Trail.

I bought an 18' Big Tex 70DM back in 2003. It was a great trailer. Couldnt even tell it was behind me. The only reason I sold it was my new 2011 Chevy 1500 crew cab struggled towing it with a car on it. It felt like I was towing a house. When I bought the trailer I was using an '05 Chevy 2500 crew with a 6.0 and 4:10s.

I've got a Big Tex utility trailer that's about 13 years old, that has held up fairly well. I've read that their quality has gone down in recent years, but then again, people tend to only post the negative stuff...

Only thing that catches my eye is 24" OC cross members, I wonder why they're not 16" OC? The channel frame is good because it won't rot from the inside.
I was wondering the same thing. 16" OC may be the better route to go. I'd rather overbuild it a little, but at the same time, don't want to blow a budget.

I hear ya, but 24" OC is more synonymous with a 7k trailer I would think. My 10k enclosed is 16" OC and the open deck 10-14k ones I've been looking at are all 16" OC.

I assume you all mean 16" and 24" as the spacing of the C Channel cross supports. Mine is at 16", I've kept tabs so I know how many screws I need to buy to re-do it when the time comes haha.

Here's a pic from a while back. I built my own Ramps for it too. Has worked very well for the $1300 I paid for it. Removable fender on the drivers side, that comes in very handy.
