I picked up a carter afb 600 cfm carb...when I got it it had an addapter plate on it wich I do not need....my 350 sbc has 4 studs in the top in outer 4 of 8 holes for carb....my question is to the inner 4 holes that are slightly smaller than the holes the studs are in do these need to be used or pluged or should I take the studs out of the intake and get bolts for em??

If I'm reading you correctly, the manifold has two sets of holes. If they are blind holes, meaning they're not drilled all the way through the manifold, they do not need to be plugged. Just move the studs to the hole pattern that fits your carb. There is nothing wrong with using bolts, but studs are easier, since they act as locating pins to align the carb and gasket.
