I'd just run a Quadrajet off a non computer Olds or Buick with an engine of around 300 ci. Everything will work and hook up as stock that way, and it's cheaper and better. The spread bore design of the Q-jet will give you better low end throttle response than a square flange model because of the higher vacuum signal to the booster venturi's at low speeds. I have had Holley's, Edelbrock's and now a Quadrajet. Compared to the Quadrajet the others are just crap. I pulled my carb off a 350 powered 1979 Chevy van for $30 and it was a fresh rebuild with tight throttle shafts. Compare that price to the cost of a carb, TV cable geometry corrector, throttle bracket, etc. and you'll see that it amounts to about a $400 savings to use the better carb.
Right now, I have 2 Holley 3310 750's a Holley 600, a Holley 650 DP, and an Edelbrock 600 (or two). I am so glad I took the time to find the Quadrajet as it runs so much better and even idles at a lower speed. I have 3 or 4 other Quadrajets too, but this one was chosen because it was off a 350 and the idle feed restrictions are therefore sized right. It originally was a 600 cfm, but a few seconds with a Dremel converted it to a 780 by cutting down the stop on the secondary air valve. Other than that the only modification has been to go to a more aggressive secondary metering rod hangar from Edelbrock that I got for about $10.
