I'm trying to find a 4 barrel carb for my 231 v6. I'm leaning towards an edelbrock performer 500cfm carb to go with my edelbrock performer intake, but I was wondering if a Holley or rochester q-jet would be better. The edelbrock sounds like it is really easy to work on and thats one of the reasons I like it. I don;t have any experience working on carburetors.

Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

Thanks

Yea go to your local salvage yard and have them do a computer search for a carb and intake off a 4.1. It should be a bolt on. It should also be an aluminum intake and a four barrel carb already fairly set up for your engine. If the carb needs rebuilt / refreshed take it to a Q-jet specialist. Some will due it cheap and you may end up total package for about what you would spend on a new carb that not tuned for your engine. If you can find a shop or someone local who set your advance curve / timeing that little 231 would come alive. Add some decent gears and you can have something that accelertes well at least much better and gets good mileage. People on here knock the 3.8 bad because it was such a dog in the gbodys but it can actually be peppy get decent mileage and their are lots of them out their with 200,000 miles.

Thanks.

Why do I need a local shop to set the advance curve/timing for me. Isn't that something I can do myself?

You do realize that changing the carb will require you to get a different distributor if you still have the CCC system, don't you?
