My carb is junk and i have a Q-Jet but i was thinkin about buyin a carb so what kind of carb would you suggest i buy or just use the Q-Jet

I'm running an edelbrock 650 cfm that runs great. With my current set up, it runs high 13's and gets 18-20mpg. Very reliable carb. From what I've heard, Holley carbs require more maintenance and constant tuning. That's just from what I've heard. As far as Q-jets go, I'm not a fan and I think Rochester made some massed produced junk. Now there's other guys on the site that will stand by those Q-jets and I'm sure they'll chime in at some point. With the edelbrock, it's fairly simply and it's a tune and leave alone deal.

it has some kind of Edelbrock on it how do i kno what kind it is?

When your staring at the motor from the front of the car, look at the passenger side front foot of the carb. There should be a number engraved in the foot, that is if it's anything like a carter comp carb which it should be the exact same. When you find the number, just type it into the google search and it should pop up.

voted edelbrock never used anything else and they have always been bolt on and simple never had an issue with them yet

i found out my is a Edelbrock performer 600 CFM 1405 i goggled it and foud out alot of people have had the same problem with them that i am

Voted Quadrajet because they do not require anything special to adapt them to your car. I run one myself and took off an Edelbrock to put the Q-Jet on. Nothing wrong with the Edelbrock (Carter), but the Quadrajet has better low speed throttle response, idle quality (lower idle speed), and better fuel economy. You do have to be careful though as Quadrajets are NOT universal as they are calibrated to a specific engine size from the factory.

The Quadrajet you have now is the evil electronic carb that I prefer not to use. It can be made to work just fine, but the 25 year old computer system has to be dealt with too, not just the carb. I have a 350 Chevy in my car and run a Quadrajet off a 1979 350 Chevy van. Were you to wish to use a Quadrajet, I would get one off a Pontiac 301 (if it exists) no newer than 1979, and have it gone through. If you swap carbs from the stock electronic setup, you will also need the proper non computer HEI distributor for your engine as well. That is true of any carb you choose to use other than the stock one. If it were my car, and I was leaving it stock, I would figure out what is wrong with the engine management system you have now and fix it. It will be easier in the long run.

i am gpnna run the Q-Jet that goes to that motor when i rev my motor it wud act like it was runnin out of gas and cut off and then come back and now its to a point that the car wont even start

Did this start happening all of the sudden, or gradually over time? My gut instinct tells me that it is a clogged fuel filter, or a small crack in a fuel line or hose that is allowing it to suck air instead of fuel. If the car is to remain stock, I see no need to replace the carburetor you have now as it may not be the actual problem. The easy way to verify fuel delivery is, with the car off, take off the air cleaner lid and look down the throat of the carb. Hold open the choke with a screwdriver and pump the throttle a few times and see if there is fuel squirted by the accelerator pump. If there is, it will be obvious.
