so cal
where can i get one (cheap) mine (86 olds(307) ) has the stock one and i need another one to pass smog .....and whats average pricce on these installed

You can get an aftermarket from Auto Zone. I believe I paid around $80-100 a few years ago. There is no welding needed to install one, so you may be able to install it yourself. It's all bolt in.

and how has this one been for u has it passed smog and everything oo i just found out california emissions are diffrent

Looks like the one I need to bolt on as soon as I get my exhaust manifold back in. Could you take a picture that shows how the front and rear of the catalytic converter bolts up. I can sort of see the front but not the back.

Not to hi-jack the thread but this question may help others, too.

If you were to use a cat like the one pictured above on the drivers side for a dual cat exhaust, would it still be advisable to use a heat shield too? I have a dual hump crossmember and thought about running a cat on each side instead of both cats where the stock single cat resides.

You could probably get away without it, but it'd be in your best interest to install a heatshield for that side as well.

Thanks Blake. I do have an extra heat shield but it's for the pass side so I'll see if it'd need modified touse on the drivers side.

My 79 Cutlass Cruiser doesn't have a heat shield at all. Not sure if there used to be one there or not. I don't see any mounts. Anyone know?
