Anyone know the CFMs of a stock 1983 Rochester Carb (sorry don't model)? What carb, intake, cam size combination would be good to get to the next level. (not a hot rod but definite fun). All I've done so far is put headers on it. I'm gonna rebuild the transmission to be ss then bump the rear end up to the .300s and then the carb etc. Thanks. I really appreciate all the great feedback I get on this site. Thanks in advance for the reply.

750 and 800cfm are the excepted ratings. Either one will meet your goals.

Are you stock right now?

A little more info about your present combo will help get answers.

most quadrajets were rated at 750 cfm,big blocks got the 800 cfm versions.ALL ccc controlled qjets were actually casted into 800 cfm models, not the 750 cfm versions, but only flowed about 590-650 cfm because of the smog treatments the low horsepower engines got.I had modified mine to open the secondary air valve to open all the way instead of just slightly likeon all ccc qjets.I filed the air valve door stop very short on the passenger side of the carb and swapped the ultra lean metering rods and hanger for a much richer one for my application (mildly moded 307) and after those mods the 307 had a little btter performance margin. What engine are you running?i'm guessing its a bone stock 305 chevy,if so grab a non ccc controlled qjet from any chevy vehicle from 1980 and back (no Big Block's,will be excessively rich and will have low performance),some sort of edelbrock intake with your desired rpm and performance range, and also a pre 1980,non ccc controlled distributor from a chevy 305,350 or maybe a 400.The cabry and distributor will have to be non computerized to work properly, unless you want to tinker with moding the ccc qjet and dist. like i did (not recommended by me),or if your state requires the smog and computer junk to be left on the engine.3.73 gears/posi,an older carby/distributor,edlebrock intake and strong transmission will get you moving pretty quick,i would junk it and go with a 350 or maybe a 454...or anything in between.

I think, dollar-for-dollar, a rearend gear change will make your car feel quicker more than engine mods. Something between 3.23 and 3.73 will be a vast improvement over the 2.XX you probably have now.
