Charcoal Fuel vapor Storage Canister

I still have mine floating around, I'll probably end up "restoring it" as well. The two nipple style came in tons of cars from the 70s into the late 1980s, so they aren't hard to find. Just sucks that they don't make new ones anymore. But, it is cheaper to "rebuild" one if you already have it.

Aren't these kinda obsolete? Weren't they mainly for emission purposes?
They are obsolete as far as the original OEM part not being available anymore but the concept is still utilized in cars today. The basic operation of the vapor canister (important) is to store the fuel vapors from the fuel tank. When the car is ruining, the fuel vapors are introduced to the combustion process. It's actually a nice safety & emissions feature because gas vapors are highly volatile.
