Hello, I am needing some advice on painting my frame. I pulled the engine and trans recently, so i figured i would clean up the engine bay. I have cleaned the frame and suspension components with a wire wheel.. I am looking for advice on what paint to use on the frame.. Anybody use Rustoleum enamel paint?? I know Por 15 works way better but i am limited on $$$. I am looking for a budget way to do this. What color should i use satin, gloss,or flat black?? Or is there a better paint to use? I would prefer to roll it on seeing that my compressor is a piece of CRAP!
Thanks for any info..
I want to hurry up and get this done so i can put my car back together.

I rattle canned mine.
Best thing you can do no matter what product you choose is to sand it so it has something to grab to, prime it so you have a good base (2 coats), and paint it (3 coats).
I just used Rustoleum primer(black, so chips aren't as noticible) and semi-gloss black paint. Turned out pretty good.

POR-15 is overrated.

My favorite is Eastwood's Ceramic Chassis Black.

for the price you pay for rattle can, you might as well pick up a quart of por-15, or eastwoods chassis paint, do it right so you dont have to do it again. just my 2cents

I just stole my rattle cans from the shop I used to work at. That's what they get for not ****ing paying me on time...

Two years now and it's holding up nicely. It's all about prep work.

I used a POR-15 knock off and it turned out very good and was pretty cheap. It also depends if you frame has a lot of rust on it. Mine was kinda rusty so I went with the POR-15 substitute. It would take a long time to get rusty metal bare to prepare for paint. I can also hit this stuff with a hammer and it wont chip off. Here is the site for the frame kit I used, only $55.00.

Also, here is a pic of the frame after I painted it, sorry it doesnt have close up detail. There was also plenty left after doing that front part of the frame, so I can use the rest on other stuff.

i am using por 15 on my frame as well. i purchased 2 quarts of the gloss black which cost me a lil over $100 canadian. the stuff works mint i painted my floors top and bottom 2 coats and only used 1 quart which left me 1 quart for the frame. it works best on rusted or bare metal but u can also use it over existing paint if u want. the paint will not chip off and will last forever but it is uv light sensitive and direct sunlight will deteriorate it.

Thanks for the tips, i know the chassis paint and the por 15 are a excellent product. I just seen rustoleum for bout 9 dollars at Home Depot and that's a lot better price. did prepare the surface and i will be trying to finish it this weekend after i get a inner right fender. Thanks for the pics lets see some more detailed G-body engine bays!! I will post some pics whenever i get done.. plus it give me a chance to get some ideas. Thanks guys.
