I have an '81 cutlass 2 door. Putting in an SBC, blown. Upwards of 525 BHP. Anyone know how much frame and chassis strentghening I should be looking for and at which points on the car I should be thinking at attaching more metal. I am an FAA mechanic and can figure this out but if anyone has done this this or knows exactly what to do it would sure be alot quicker.

when we ran metric circle track cars we would always go over the factory welds and fix where needed.....some of the welds are real scary...and of course you should box the frame....

off topic....I use to work on the CL 600 and 601 years ago...

The best place to start your bracing is....the same place the factory did!Jounce bar,rad braces, reat seat braces, and all of the missing body bushings are a good start...

Thanks. Those are some sweet rides.
I was also thinking of adding gussets on some ponts. Being a blown engine, its a little torquey

then you might want to consider x'ing the frame and tying the front horns together and the rear rails. We ran a full cage and a hoop in the front and with all the bracing we had on the front clip the right side would still move up about 3/8" in a corner...some of the guys in here think body bracing stiffens the frame but sheet metal is no match for the pressures exerted on the frames...

True. I'm deffinetly gonna x the frame. I would add a cage but I want it to look a little less racing than that. Of course with the exception of the blower sticking out. lol. I may do it anyway though. It is going to be given to my son in a few years, minus the engine. Gonna put the 6 cyl back in and find a new toy for the motor.

Are you ever going to the track?

525 hp is well within the stock and aftermarket bracing.
