I don't think you'll ever get it factory white again due to oxidization, but what I did was to take the thing off, put some rocks, dish soap, water and some bleach in there, and shake the living sh*t out of it for a while, rinse it out real good and put it back. The results weren't all that great but it looks better than it did! It cleaned the built-up scale and gunk out of it anyway.

If anyone knows where I can get a correct NOS one for my GP, with the filler hole at the top/back vs in the middle, LMK.

Well I just checked, and didn't see any of the correct ones.

Just keep your eyes peeled and they'll turn up.

In the mean time, you might as well give the bleach a shot and see how they turn out...

yeah i originally saw them when I was looking for my father in laws 84 hurst olds.....the ones I need have to fit 84 grand national I sold the 86 cutlass and am trying to get my gn together. Ill have pics on soon....some people are gonna hate me because its not 3.8 turbo but I got the rolling body for 100 bucks and dont have the funds to do a turbo motor at the moment....It is a real 84 gn with T-Tops....body is really straight has small amount of rust in lower doors but the paint job is like brand new...so for now its a Tuned port injected 327 with World Class T5 manual trans with hydraulic clutch. That is what I had available to me within my budget.....Engine compartment looks pretty nice and these tanks stick out like a sore thumb.

well....I did a 5 gallon bucket of 1 part bleach and 4 parts water put both in covered over night....The bleach did make them considerably whiter. Not perfect by any means but much better....wish I had a before and after to show you. I scrubbed them with simple green and a stiff brush before putting them in the bleach mix. I heard another trick with doing the same thing with the bucket but dropping in a whole boxes worth of polident denture cleaner tablets. Might try it on another set and post the results!
