Installing a 6.0 LQ9 into my 79 Cutlass. I don't care for the coils bolted onto valve cover looks, so seeking input on coil relocation options. I find several relocation brackets available but very few with pictures as installed. I'd like to keep the wires short and coils accessible, so mounting to firewall (wires too long) or under headers (inaccessible) are not good options.

I'll have to look for pictures(nope, didn't have any) but on a 69 Chevelle we relocated them down onto the top of the frame, in front of the a-arms, seemed like the best choice. Another option is to use some of the valve covers that cover the coils possibly?

I did intend to use the coil hider valve covers, however from the experiences posted by several others, there will be very tight clearance at the heater box, so we will have to stick with stock profile valve covers.

Have you looked at converting the valve covers to the style that have the standoffs built in that bolt the coil directly to the cover (holley or other)?

IMO it's not the coils that are ugly it's the bracket they bolt to that then bolts to the valve cover.

I 've seen several done similar to this & likely how I'd go about it because I'd want a retro look....

Yes, I have seen those and I agree they look a little better than the stock, but I'd still prefer to relocate the coils so the valve cover is visible and less wire.

very cool

So, where did you actually mount the coils with those brackets ? Any pics available ?
Couldn't find any pics but it was on top of the frame, in front of the a arm on the drivers side and on the side of the frame for the passenger side, used a MSD diy plug wire kit to get the lengths needed. We also didn't like under the exhaust manifolds, it was tight on the firewall on each side of the engine, and we didn't like them mounted high on the firewall
