You are absolutely correct that it is should not be based off engine alone. If you look at Vi-king's online catalog they do go in depth on how to determine the springs that you need http://magazinevolume.com/12765BF/#/20/ but they also have made pre-determined kits for G Body on the handling characteristic that you are looking for. They break them up into the following:

xtreme-light

Drag

Handling

xtreme- heavy


Theses are also broken down into if you are running a big block or a small block so there are a total of 8 possibilities
