I was able to get the stock linkage to work by bending the part that goes into the lever on the transmission about 2-3 degrees in a vice, using two sockets, one big enough to go over just the part that activates the lever, and another to over that, and fit snuggly over the part that stops it from going all the way through. Using a breaker bar, I just pulled back on it until it gave slightly. Now it's securely in Park, and goes into reverse, neutral, OD and drive easily.
