comp cams thumpr cam kit

....thats a great value. But only really for the roller lifters. I personally don't see an added benefit of roller lifters unless going with a roller cam. And I don't see a huge benefit of a roller cam if not for heads that flow well mid and possibly upper range.

A flat tappet cam isn't designed for high lift at the same duration as a roller, and generally this is what you'd want roller lifters for. It does make a few extra hp's on its own and less strain on the valvetrain and can check/adjust rockers and lash less regularly, but I think if going that route you can pick a regular flat tappet cam to spec and have it meet your exact engine expectations, rather than some nice parts that don't necessarily complement eachother 100%.

Ask that supplier which cam comes with the kit so you can get the entire cam specs from the comp cam website. Better yet just call comp cams.

what heads do you have? what compression? what are you building the engine for?

My motor is completely stock and I just want a cam for the sound but i was told that if i wanted a cam put in I would need to buy the kit with cam, lifters retainers, springs, time set, etc a whole kit but my motor is bone stock

I so dont see roller lifters in there. i see retro fit flat tappets.

X2, maybe this kit retro fits roller blocks instead...IMO I think you can peice togather a better kit yourself, and that cam is not going to sound off like you think in a 400

I saw retro fit and thought it was their roller conversion 😳 Wasnt aware they had one for flat tappets. I advised him to just call comp cams and ask for their cam recommendation since he doesn't need all the extra junk.

I guess its similar pros and cons, a lot of money for just less adjustment of valve lash and efficiency at lower rpms.

The cam will sound good in your sbc 400. I bought the same cam for a buick big block but I based my purchase off a sbc 350. Mines sounds pretty close to the sbc. I have heard complaints about you can get another cam that will have better benefits than the thumpr but in my big block it pulled like a ****.

This is the video I based my purchase off of.
