Considering another garage

After having to pass on a PERFECT next project wagon, due to not having the room for inside I’m considering having another one built. Years ago I thought a 24X32 attached to the house would be enough. VERY WRONG! My current project uses up all that space plus I have new/reconditioned parts all over the house in different rooms and closets. Atleast we’re empty nesters. Plus my wife gripes that she hasn’t been able to park her car in the garage, especially in the winter. Also she gripes when I even use WD-40 about the smell. I have a good sized side yard with about 80 ft. to a side street. If the boro will allow, I’d like it as close to the street as possible. I’m thinking another 24X32+X12 with 2 garage and a man door on the 32+ street side. I’m in the burbs on a deadend street with no houses across the street. I guess I’ll go by cost as to block again or steel/composite. The pics show what I have and the area I’m considering.

I have a 24' wide by 34' deep. Basically it has become a one car garage, plus all my tools, parts, and the atv I plow my driveway with. I have a lean to built off the back that is 24' by 16' wide. That's full of lawn stuff. Zero turn, riding mower, tiller, winter tires and wheels, spare propane tanks, rakes, shovels, etc. I'd love to have another garage this size to just park the daily drivers in and maybe get the four wheeler out of the garage. Go as big as they will allow and you can afford. Even if it means it won't have electric for a while until you can afford it. You'll thank yourself for the room later.

You definitely cannot have enough space. Not sure how soon you would want to build it but right now building materials cost are at an all time high. When I built my garage 5 years ago I paid $7.63 for a sheet of osb. Right now it's about $30 per sheet, insanity!!! It will come down just not sure when. Got any questions ask away

There comes a time when you have to ask yourself "Do I need more space or do I have too much stuff" The answer will be age related!!

NICE! It is an age thing. I’m almost 67 and my current garage and the old one small car (shed) garage under the porch are overloaded with tools and equipment that I’ve acquired over the decades. Atleast I built an 8X10 shed in the back corner of my yard for everything lawn and garden.

Waiting to here from the bank. If it goes through, im getting a steel garage on concrete. I really see what you guys mean about prices. When I had my first garage built the 24X32 concret floor cost $5,000. A 20X40 is going to be around double that now. The garage itself is LESS COSTLY than the floor.

I always hear go as big as you can, basically you can never have enough space.

We bought our home 8 years ago and I was real happy to be able to find a house/location that also had an extra garage. Still am. Attached 2.5 then a (small) detached 2 car garage that was built maybe 10 years after the house was built. The last year or so I’ve gotten ideas to take the detached down and go as big as I can in it’s place that I can afford and that looks decent, not a monstrosity that dominates our yard 😀. Hoping in maybe 5 years I can put up a 30x40 roughly, taller to accommodate a lift too. Room to spread out, add another car (or two, if need be/temporary storage). It’s fun to steal ideas seeing other garages.

At my age 66, I don’t want to get to financially involved. Right now I’ve got the car and equipment/tools taking up half of the current garage. And equipment like welders, sand blster, carts and a crap load of other stuff taking up the other half. A 20X30 additional garage at around $20,000 will let me have great work/painting space separate from the house. That I can maneuver what ever tools/equipment from one garage to another when needed and the wife will get her spot in the house garage back.
