Considering another garage

Years ago I wanted to put an addition on my existing 22x30. I got a great price from a builder I know for a 20x24. It would have made my garage L shaped. I have plenty of property to do it. Trouble is my 120 year old house is in whats called the historical transition zone. The town wouldnt give me the building permit unless I used ceder perfections, carriage doors and true divided light windows and man door. This pushed the price up so high I I decided not to do it. The ironic thing is my existing garage was built in 1982 and my 120 year old house has vinyl siding and Anderson windows. Stupid town rules. I hate it here.

I always hear go as big as you can, basically you can never have enough space.

We bought our home 8 years ago and I was real happy to be able to find a house/location that also had an extra garage. Still am. Attached 2.5 then a (small) detached 2 car garage that was built maybe 10 years after the house was built. The last year or so I’ve gotten ideas to take the detached down and go as big as I can in it’s place that I can afford and that looks decent, not a monstrosity that dominates our yard 😀. Hoping in maybe 5 years I can put up a 30x40 roughly, taller to accommodate a lift too. Room to spread out, add another car (or two, if need be/temporary storage). It’s fun to steal ideas seeing other garages.
If you like seeing other garages check out garagejournal.com. Its a great forum for buildings and tools. Some people have serious money in their builds.

Oh I’ve been on that site before 😆. It’s been awhile though, I did get some ideas when working on my detached to get it where it is now. It was very basic without even an opener, think it was a glorified shed/storage, at least the last owner used it that way.

Another example of how the REAL AMERICA is slipping away.

I starter with a 22x24 garage took out the back wall and added 30 feet so now I have 22x54 and it's not enough room for all my projects. The bigger you go the more stuff you get or buy.
Good luck with the build

I've got 2 acres outside Albuquerque in the east mountains with a 30 x 40 foot Quonset hut style machine shed with a 9' and two 8' rollup doors. Been here ten years and haven't run out of room yet. Then again, I'm not a "collector."

Subscribed. We're thinking about a 40'x50' metal building at the new place so I'm interested to learn and gain perspective.

I'm kind of in the same boar re:wife. She can't park in the garage - which has been less of an issue with the panademic/work at home situation. Plus I just don't have the space. Attached garage is ~ 20' x 20'

I'm in the process of pricing out a 30' x 40'. Was looking at stick vs, metal pre-fab. With the price of wood going crazy (steels not that much better TBH) I've pretty much settle on the pre-fab metal building. But it'll be the rigid frame type, not the quonset style

There comes a time when enough is enough. Just how many flat blade screw drivers do you need to have, two: a right hand one and a left hand one 🙂 I have about 20 of them! I've been cleaning out stuff I will never use or need. Original AC Delco Spark Plugs for my 81 Vette , trash. Original AC System and fan/shroud for the SS with brackets, bolts and lines: gone for parts credit to a G Body parts store. So now that my Little Garage Attic is clean of old parts, I will not save any more. As far as material cost, where did you hear prices will come down? So will the .35 cent gal of gas! IF you got to build it to make more room you are ;looking at the the wrong way. Get rid of stuff. My next task is the boxes of Christmas lights that have not been strung about for over 7yrs! Getting too old to climb ladders.
