I'm getting back to the teen age days when I loved to shift gears. I got a 87 442 with a built 200r4 overdrive from Monster transmission in it. The problem is I want to shift gears. It's got a 403 in it with a crank that has been stiffened with a J&S crank shaft girdle. I need to know if it is possible to put a 4 speed transmission in this car and if so what type of transmission and most of all, who out there has one for sale?
Thanks

I have a 4 speed saginaw for sale. You'd have to buy a bop bellhousing and such, but the parts are definitely out there. Glad to hear you still have an olds in it 8)

I learned to drive on a 59' VW bug and I've been shifting gears ever since. A Saginaw will bolt right in with the shifter mounting like stock and everything to do it is available new or used. Pontiac/Olds bellhousing is common at swapmeets. If you plan on punishing it, a different or stronger trans will require a custom installation and things can get interesting. Since you're not a teenager (wink, wink), a Saginaw will live as long as you have decent gears out back and drive maturely. The first thing I do is remove the shabby stock rubber offset trans mount along with the tab it bolts to and weld it back on to the crossmember so a poly mount will bolt up like on a Firebird/Camaro. That helps a LOT.
