Just bought a 1998 Lincoln Town Car with 60,000 "little-old lady" miles on it. It is Blue on blue with a faux dark blue convertible top. The car has been kept outside for its entire life but is in excellent condition other than being very dirty. The faux cloth top on it has green mildew on a large portion of it. I've heard that in order to clean this on the cheap (as opposed to paying $40+ for RaggTop), mix ivory soap flakes, downy fabric softener and lukewarm water and use a horsehair shoe brush to scrub it in. Following by rinsing thoroughly with water. This top is made of the cloth or canvas type material, not vinyl. Anyone have experience with this method?

Haha thats alot of specific steps. Its like if I said "If you take a gallon of water shake it over your head while holding a ripe orange in the other, simultaneously hopping on one foot with no shoes on it'll reverse the effects of mildew"

I had a 93 mustang conv. All I used was soapy water mostly shampoo or dish washing soap. But dont use dish washing soap on paint! Hope this helps.
