Well, I swapped in my new 700r4 and its all good. Now i have another problem. My car barely heats up and my radiator is hissing. When I squeeze my top rad hose i hear air pushing through the top corner on the driver's side. The owner told me I would need a water pump soon. How do I know what it is for sure?

I hit a few corners in my car and when I got home, I turned the car off. Low and behold, its very loud hissing from that spot on the rad. Also steam was coming from that spot only.

I just want to make sure Im replacing something that needs it and fixes the problem. I dont have a bunch of cash right now to spill.

If I had it, Id do both now.

RAD or WATER PUMP????

how much coolant did you mix?

I'm gonna take a guess and say but a new thermostat.

any air leaks near the top of your rad? If air's getting in (without leaking coolant), it'd heat up quicker and cause your overflow to hisss

A bad thermostat would just run your car cool, it would automatically discharge the coolant to the rad, before the engine even warmed up
unless the thermostat was installed upside-down... then you gotta whole nother problem

You said it's hissing by the drivers side? Then I'd say the to hose connection may not be sealed and if your a tad low on coolant it will just hiss air instead of leaking. Or (especially) if you have an aluminum radiator with the plastic tanks there could be a small leak where the tank attaches.

The hose connection is tight.

Should there be any air hissing at all from the rad at any time? If I squeeze the hose i hear the air pushing out.

yeah... there's your problem...

no, air should not be hissing, unless you truely overheat your motor...
And when you squeeze the hose, it should feel firm and stiff from being full of hot coolant.

You may have an airleak if you hear air push out when you squeeze the hose...
