Also, all of the parts you need for a 350-400 h.p. build is available at Summit or Jegs. I would think the only part you would not be able to get at those two places would be a girdle, and thats not even required.

Which is why I said above that power level it wouldn't even be close to the same price unless you can do it yourself which is the honest truth.

But in reality you aren't looking at a few hundred dollars more, you're looking at more like 500 to a thousand dollars more at least when starting from scratch (unless you get lucky or are an engine builder) - if you want more than 350/400 horses out of the engine.

I have a hard time with that statement. As Dan said, the machining costs are the same. If you buy the same quality components (pistons, bearings, gaskets, etc) instead of the Chinesium parts, the build costs will be very close.

Not as I found. If you could send me a link to where you find SBO aluminum heads and stroker rotating assembly for less than a chevy or even in the same ball park with the same performance, I would say you're right.

Why would you even want a stroker assembly for an Olds? If the 350 doesn't do it for you, just get a 403 instead. Note that all Olds small block motors use the same 3.385" stroke. If that's not enough, the 455 weighs only a few pounds more and is only about 2" wider. THAT'S the inexpensive way to get a "stroker" Olds 350.

I do agree the 455 would be about the same cost, but can't see how you could get the same types of parts for any olds small block for near the same price and performance as a chevy. I could list 5-10 SBC heads right now for hundreds less and better performance than any olds sb, and that's just the heads.

That's good Joe, got a chuckle out of that one.

Kind of reminded me of the line:

He brings a knife, you bring a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. THAT'S the Chicago way and THAT'S how you get Capone."
