So I'm in the market for a rear to replace my 2.29s I kinda want to go with a 3.42 or 3.73 b/c I'll have the 4l60e and should maintain decent mileage.

I found a guy parting out an 85 cutlass on craigslist and he is asking $75 for the rear. He says they are stock gears but can't give me a number. What are the possibilities here? I don't want to end up with the same thing.

Is this decent?
Really anything will be better than a 2.29 to hold me until I find some 28 spline GN axles to fit all my fbody 10-bolt parts

Watch out. in 1985 it was possible to get a 2.14 axle.

if the guy is too lazy to remove the cover to look at the numbers on the gears I'd tell him he can keep them. I like to know what I am buying

Does a 442 rear fit in my Elco? there's a guy that has one sitting out in front of his shop and I want to ask if he'd sell me the rear.
