I would like to see pictures of everyone's exhaust route's.

I am trying to sketch out a dual exhaust system for my Regal and I would like to implement an "X" pipe at the very tail end of the transmission. Using no catylitic convertors obviously, I was wondering if this has been done? And will it sound better with mufflers before or after the "X" pipe? I would like to try and run the mufflers before the "X" pipe so I can tuck the rest of the tubing up beside the driveshaft and dump it out with turndowns before the rearend.

I should have pictures up tommorrow of the exhaust I just put on my cutlass. I ran true duals but down the passenger side with and x-pipe and dumps after the mufflers. I did it this way because I am going to be putting a five speed in with hydraulic clutch and didnt want any heat issues under the hydraulic setup. Hopefully Ill have pics up tommorrow.

both my regal and cutty have the exhaust ran down the passenger side. it works great and you can avoid buying a 250 dollar cross member and there are no issues with it hanging down too far. my regal has air ride and 2.5" exhaust and it has never rubbed on the ground or anything.

www.pypesexhaust.com Look for 78 to 88 g-body. SGG12R. It might show a pic of the cat back but their is also pic of header back. I would not use the aluminied crap it rots but the cheaper 409 stainless is good. Id use the racepro muffs (or Magnaflow side inlet center outlet long case) and specify if you want the 442 style exit behind the wheel tailpipes or you will get sent the chevy MCSS style.

my dad has a 78 regal he bought and we threw a mild chev 350 in it, complete custom exhaust had TRUE duals from the shorty headers into 2.5 inch lines, the crossmember was customised to run through without any issues, and then into a h pipe into some flowmaster super 40s ,then out the back on the side like most people have with some crome tips, was the best sounding regal ive ever heard, very unique!

I just got a 3" X pipe system without mufflers FREE from my neighbor! I am so stoked!!! 😀
If you have an X-pipe and your have a crossmember your halfway there. Since your not going to run cats I'd put the X-pipe just behind the trans. Then mount the mufflers before the axle and wrap the pipe up and around. Thats what I have on my set up. Except I didn't buy an x-pipe I just balanced it in with an H-pipe. Theres no room for the mufflers after the axle so you'll have to tuck them in. Mine turned out good! The whole system fits tight but it doesn't hang down. 3" makes it difficult to bend it over the axle so you might want to go a little smaller but I would deff. use that x-pipe set up. That'll be sweet! What headers are you running?

Well right now I have a cheap set of of shorty's but I think I am going to get the Flowtech Tri-Y's long tubes from Summit. I am going to dump my exhaust before the rear axle with some turndowns and I am also going to weld cutouts in it somewhere but I don't know if I should put them before or after the X section?

putting the mufflers before the x pipe would be pointless, you wouldnt be gaining anything from it

you should have the x pipe as early in the exhaust system as possible
