MALIBU Package!

Things to think about: the factory made em that way for a reason, mainly, vibration dampening and to muffle road noise amplified in the trunk area.

It's why everything else in the car - door panels, a/b-pillar, upper and lower rear interior, all made of plastic.... but not that.

Speakers vibrate, it's how you get sound. So if you put a stiff surface, onto a steel plate, holding speakers, you may notice the noise at certain sound levels and frequencies in your choice of music.

Just food for thought.
Great point. thanks.

Sounds like if you use plastic you may want to put a layer of Dynamat/ Kill Mat in between that and the metal to stop vibration and echos. I'd definitely put it directly on the plastic and possibly not the metal shelf in case it needs removed but I've seen people put it on both.
I love that product. Dynamat. And kill mat. Is it just the name or is there truly a difference in performance due to the price. Dez

I have Kill Mat and have never used Dynamat for no reason other than price. As for performance I can't really make a comparison but they're both foil covered Butyl Rubber which is insanely sticky and not coming off easily. The only thing that can really be different is the thickness of the material (might be listed as weight for some) since the purpose is to add weight to things and change their resonant frequency. I don't recall the thickness or weight of either product at the moment.

These materials aren't specifically designed to stop the transfer of sound but do so a little bit- for stopping sound you want jute padding, foam, or similar.

I got the secret drip on the passengers toe. And I hear this seal in the heater /fire wall is the culprit! Got to fix that one of these days. I heard it’s a b*&$#,! To get at ! The kill mat makes me feel better as I sponge the half a cup of water from last night in Boston,:the rain was sick Dez

My package tray for the Cutlass is one part that did not survive well... I've been trying to flatten it by periodically wetting it and pressing it to the basement floor with a 60 lb block of lead my late father salvaged from an x-ray room that was renovated 30 years ago. The problem is the original fiberboard is rotted on the edge. ABS replacement package tray is $100 plus shipping, and I could add that to the list of $100 things I'm dragging my feet on. I've been trying to source one from a parts car, but they've generally been no better. I'm probably going to get the interior installed this fall so I'm tuned in... might wind up wrapping my package tray in headliner and sending it. I got a box of off brand killmat/dynamat for the floors and such... already used some on the rear panels on either side of the rear seat. It used to have jute there.

I just discovered that I bought the wrong brackets. Damn ! I’m gonna make my own stay tuned this should be fun. Also look at the post I’m going to put up as the brackets are no good to me. And how the hell do you get that lower frame off 😜 dez
