Im cutting my wheel tubs out because i want a bigger tire. i have an 87 cutlass supreme. Is there any insight or warnings that u guys know that will help me do this? Much appriciated thx guys.

Have you notched the frame yet? That seems to be the limiting factor on these cars.

Most people notch the frame until it is flush with the inner wheelwell, this is what I did and the largest tire I have used is a 295/65R15 M/T drag radial on a 8.5" rim with 5" of backspace. This tire is 30" tall and about 12" wide. This is without any modification to the actual wheelwell.

Wow thats really impressive! So backspacing.... can u enlighten me a little bit?
Also, u have a 12 inch wide tire on an 8.5 inch rim? That seems like alot of tire on a small rim. U dont get alot of tire shake or anything.

Wel i did some reaearch on backspacing.... so ur on an 8.5 rim the hub is mounted on the outside 3 inches of ur wheel rite? Im new at this but doesnt that cause tire wear issues or something

12" is the section width of the tire which would be the widest part (the bulge) these tires are designed to be safely ran on rim sizes 8-10" and M/T uses the 8.5" as their measuring rim. Tread is 10.9" on this tire.
Backspacing would be like offset the more BS the further in the rim is and with a frame notch you want to bring the rim in more to make use of the added space.
Tire shake never had it and don't know what you could do wrong to create it.

The mounting flange would be 3.5" from the outside of the car and this causes no wear issues however the power of a 565 Big Block Chevy does cause wear issues.

You think you could have gone with a 315 with 15x10's?
