I know this has been done before but i can't seem to find the answer. I have a 85 Cutlass 442. I am installing a new Dart motor, similar as small block chevy. I need to figure out what i need for frame to/and motor mounts. I want to use the poly type good for my 530hp. My searching shows a 4 hole clamshell bracket to motor for a Monte Carlo [we all know they have the same G body frame] but the new motor is a 3 bolt triangle type mounting. Solid style mounts are everywhere but poly type don't seem to show up for this year car, will any of those others actually work? I would like to just buy new if available, there are kits that look right but all have different dimentions so? Or do i need to find an old 3 bolt clamshell, then what works with it on the frame? thanks all, john

Re: SBC in a 85 442

 Post this in the Monte section. This has nothing to do with Oldsmobiles. People need to quite posting their damn Chevy question here. Yeah that's right, I am being rude. I don't care. I'm fed up with the Chevy BS in this section already.

Now I'm off to install a 383 stroker in my mint 83 Hurst Olds....

Re: SBC in a 85 442

Actually it is a new completely aftermarket made in the USA Dart motor, not a single chevy part on it so get bent loser.
Something you could never afford.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

Yeah I'll go get bent then Mr. Moneybags! If you really need to find out the answer to your question though, try posting in the Buick section. Seems like a good place to find your answer!

Re: SBC in a 85 442

Well your Dart engine is still based on a small block chevy design which is one reason why DoubleV is stating this should be in the Monte section since every aspect of installing a SBC in a Monte applies to your 442 and pretty much any gbody style. Plus a lot of people frown on having a Chevy in a BOP car when there are other available options.
All the motor mounts for a SBC in a gbody use a 3 hole block mount(even stock clamshell style) and a 4 hole frame mount but you only use 3 of the frame mount holes.
I would stick with either a polyurethane mount or solid mounts, but I myself prefer solid mounts for reliability and I want something that will always hold the power that my engine makes.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

Actually my plan was to install a sbo. But sadly one good builder died, and the other two are to busy to take on any more work. I even asked if anyone knew of any other good old's builder on this forum but got no responses. So i chose this specificely because it had no chevy parts as the next best thing. It is annoying for someone to say because it looks like a chevy it is wrong. If that were the case double v should remove his chevrolet based cowl hood and all those aftermarket engine parts since he don't like it when i do it. Also the 442 never came with a spoiler. He is doing what he wants for his own reasons, so did you and so am i, nothing wrong with that to me.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

I would rather see an olds in an olds too, but its your car, you've already bought the engine & I'll still help you out. You'll need to get the frame motor mount pads from a Chevy powered gbody, route fuel lines & battery to the other side. For the motor mounts, just go to auto zone or whatever & get some for a gbody monte. For mounting the frame motor pads, maybe someone can post a pic of which holes mount to in a Chevy application. On a side note, the rear spoiler could be ordered & installed at the dealer if requested in the sales order. 88 h/o has a 442 that was ordered with one.

I dont see why it is such a big deal either.I would rather see these cars running on the road instead of sitting in a junkyard with the "correct" motor.I grew up with people that would put anything in anything, they had to work with what they had or could aford.Nobody b*tches when you put a ford 9 in a Gbody 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
