Re: SBC in a 85 442

Thats good because i like the look of the spoiler. Gm was being cheap with the flat hood so changing that is an improvment as well. Thanks for the help, i will go buy the motor side from the auto store and remove the rubber part and change to the poly. I guess i need to do some searching for the frame mounts, i was hoping some one made new one's being chevy is so popular. I found they bolt farthest forward with one bolt hole not used so i just need to find some. Nice pic, did you use solid mounts? My worry is old used my not handle more power that originally designed for.

 Post this in the Monte section. This has nothing to do with Oldsmobiles. People need to quite posting their damn Chevy question here. Yeah that's right, I am being rude. I don't care. I'm fed up with the Chevy BS in this section already.

Now I'm off to install a 383 stroker in my mint 83 Hurst Olds....

Hes posing in the correct section. My Regal came with a Pontiac motor, so I should post in the Pontiac section?? Hey look there isn't one...... His car is an Olds no mater what is under the hood. Yes he could post in the engine swap section, but again mines not a swap, and just like his car is 75% Olds mines 75% Buick.

Yeah, the spoilers set these cars off. I've got an original one off a '84 Hurst to put on mine. Yeah they defiantly should've used a similar spoiler to the hurst on the all 442's. Also, GM could've made the 442's a lil more special as they did with the hurst olds, with a performance shifter of some kind, etc...I always liked the looks of the hurst hood..I'm putting one on mine.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

I'm surprised they don't make a polyurethane hybrid which is what you need basically. Old style motor to new style frame mount. Maybe you could possibly go with a 3 hole on the frame and drill you holes to fit your application. Or make an adaptor plate for your Dart motor to the new style mount that gbodys were made for. Good luck.

The point I was trying to make was simple; if you expect to get answers to your questions, then post them in the most logical section where you're most likely going to get your answer and keep the forums organized for easier searches.

The reason I was being harsh on jociha was because being an 'Olds guy', I get tired of coming to this one little section of the forum to talk Olds and instead hear people asking SBC questions all the time that have absolutely nothing to do with Oldsmobiles. It's just a pet peeve of mine I guess, but it justs bugs the $hit out of me when I come here and see threads like 'what kind of brackets should I get for my Chevy 350 engine' and such. What does that have to do with Oldsmobiles? Because your Chevy engine is in an Oldsmobile? Seriously? Does that really seem logical to people? These are the types of questions that should be asked in a more appropriate section. If I was putting a Grand National engine in my Cutlass, I wouldn't post my questions here just because I have a Cutlass. I would post it in the Buick or more 'general' section because it makes more sense to.

And yes, I'm well aware the vechical specific section of these forums are not by make, but by model but it's not really hard to see it for what it really is.

So no hard feelings jociha. You were just the straw that broke the camels back. Just got fed up with the Chevy questions here in 'Oldsmobile country'. I still think putting a Chevy ( or whatever you want to call it ) in a rare 442 totally sucks, but that's your buisiness I guess.

P.S. My 'Chevy style' cowl scoop is actually an Oldsmobile G-Body Cutlass specific reproduction ( from the original mouldings ) piece. No Chevy parts on my Olds!

You don't need an adapter plate or any special engine mount this is a straight forward swap all you need are gbody upper and lower engine mounts for one that came with a SBC, all the small blocks, including the Dart SHP,Little and Big M blocks, World Motown Blocks etc use the same engine mount either factory or aftermarket and will bolt in place of a stock 305 SBC and those same mounts and locations fit a Big Block Chevy in a gbody also.
The Dart block uses the exact same engine mount with 3 holes on the block as any other Small Block Chevy.
If you currently had a 305 in your car this would be just a simple R & R.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

Where in Michigan are you, i am in Bay City. I would love to see your car sometime it is awesome. Do you find the solid motor mounts vibrate to much driving or would i be happy with them. I am afraid of cracking 30 year old used parts and the new oem pieces that i think i can get the clamshell side are China crap and worry me. What about a solid on one side, i think driver side? The poly pieces are designed to fit the shape of the oem so to the junk yard i go.

So the old style is only different where it connects to frame, not the motor. Right? I have been away from the game awhile so sorry for my confusion.

Re: SBC in a 85 442

Can I get help installing a small block olds in my Monte, along with a Ford rear end, and a Mopar transmission?

Wait, I think I should post a topic in the Ford section, the Monte section, and the Mopar section. Can someone point me in the right direction?

This guy is asking for help, if you don't want to help him then move on.
