Another new guy question....
I really don't know my 86 SS well because I have not taken anything apart (yet).
Just noticed an impression of the dash edge, on the driver's upper door fuzzy panel The door seems to fit well. Is it possible the dash may have been installed biased to the left?

Yes, a hair maybe. The 3 10mms bottom bolt go through square holes, the top 4 7mms bolts go into speed clips at the base or the windshield, they can shift left right a hair also. The other mounting points are the metal brace that sandwiches between the firewall bracket and the column, it has less play itself, but the dash is flexible a bit. So, one could loosen up all the mounting hardware and try and shift it. But, with all the ductwork and gauges I doubt that could happen

I spend my time when installing and swapping dash for this very reason.
