This week going to pull the trigger on a 1986 Grand Prix LE. 147,100 miles no interior rips, everything works even the clock and power antenna. Rust on the roof from the landau top (of course) and one rust spot under the opera window. No rust otherwise. Has the 305.

Price - $1,000

What do you think?

Good luck, man.
It doesn't look bad for $1000.
Keep us up to date on your progress. How's the rest of the car rust-wise?

Well, I do not see anything......... I wuppose when I pull up the carpets I will see the real deal. Trunk is dry. Trunk is huge! lol My gf has never seen a bench seat in a car before :) Going to have to de-smoke the car former owners are both smokers. Going to have to replace the carpet I think.

Yeah, not a bad deal. I would knock them down a few bucks because of the smoke inside, a b*tch to get out.

You are so right. It is very cloying. I think with the carpet out and if I lay that black anti rust on the floorboards. Scrub everything, there is a spray they say you can spray right into the blower vents. I wonder, does this model have a cabin air filter? Shampoo the heck out of the seats. Tear out the already trashed headliner. You know, the usual. It may be livable with the new carpet installed. Fingers crossed. I like interior work. This will be my first bodywork. I am looking forward to it.

I will tell you the truth. When I saw the big clock and the super duper cool dash I was hooked big time! :)

The first thing I would do is remove the vinyl and then decide how much work you are willing to do to bring it back, regardless I think a $1000 is a fair price.

Yeah, fumigating the car from a former smoker is going to be a challenge, but well worth it. You would pretty much have to pull the interior apart. The carper and headliner would probably need to be scrapped....but if the carpet is in relatively good shape, it might be worth trying different methods to kill the smoke.
There's no cabin filters in these cars.
You gotta love those Pontiac dashes....;)

Sounds like a good price to me. Since your girlfriend has never seen a bench seat you can tell her it's a lot easier than trying to climb in the back seat
