Detent cable concerns...

That may be why yours has lasted. Like I said, I *think* this is why GM designed them to do this. Essentially with the cable not hooked up the trans is getting A LOT of line pressure to keep it living.

Well I went down to AutoZone and bought a brand new TV cable for only $6.99. It looks just like the one in the picture I posted above. Its a Pioneer brand part number CA-1937. Its funny because they didn't have a listing for a TV cable. It was listed under detent cable, and on the bag it even says detent. But either way I have one now, and hopefully Ill get some time to install it in the next couple days.

In the part store computers "detent cable" covers both the tv cables and kickdown cables.

Ok well I got the TV cable installed the other day. In the process I stumbled across my REAL problem. The inner cable is basically fully extended at all times, as if I was in wide open throttle. How do I go about freeing up this up? Do I just drop the pan and tap on some stuff? I would hate to pay a transmission shop to free it up, if I could do it myself. Any ideas?

aaah, THAT's why it survived.
you can attempt to get in the hole and push the valve back and see if it's able to move after that, but most likely you need to pull the pan and valve body, free up the valve, polish the bore and replace the spring. BUT most likely this is something you can do without special tools. while you're doing all this you do want to put in a shift kit and maybe some other parts.

Is the cable attached to the hook inside the trans? it should have some recoil when you pull on it. If there isnt any recoil, than something inside the trans is broken. Just my two cents....

Well it doesn't have any recoil to it at all because it doesn't move at all  It is stuck all the way out. I thought it was strange how far that metal piece was sticking out of the transmission. Then I got back under the hood, and it was fully extended out. Just gotta unstick this valve now.
