Diesel gone bad!

BMWs suck.

the company he works for pays for most of the car and gas, my son keeps untill the warranty is almost up and then he dumps. The business he is in he needs a high end vehicle to impress his clients

Meh, what do I know. I only worked on them for 25 years.
Should we talk about VW diesels to bring it back on topic? 🤣

To a degree. Made lots of money on Japanese and domestic. But VWs, Audis, and BMWs were usually not worth the amount of work they needed. Mercedes and Volvo were okay. Jags could go either way depending on model. Korean cars were safe to 120-150k, then junk.

when my son had a 335XI he kept it past the warranty and one steering knuckle seized so he got a new shaft and asked me to give him a hand. There was no room to try to get the shaft off and I ended up cracking the plastic dust cover on the steering rack so I told him I'd get a new one. I figured the rack would have to be dropped but by son didn't want to get that deep into it. Thankfully he decided to bring it to a shop that was owned by one of his friends. I went to the dealer to buy a new plastic cover thinking the $10 part will be probably closer to $50....turned out the part was not available and you had to buy a steering rack for $1,300 to get one...😳
