Oh wow, in that picture, it seems i'll be running the crossmember a lot more forward than where it is now which would definatley have the trans itself sitting more forward(when i had it almost lined up and the tail was wedged against the trans tunnel, the trans seemed a few inches too far back and up against the firewall).

The crossmember on the car is factory and is in the same position as other regals i've had. So, looks like the new crossmember from jegs needs to be mounted forward(on the driver side) of where the current one is.

did the car originally have a 200-4r? the overdrive trans uses those back mounting holes .... the th200/th350 uses the front holes. The Xmembers are also different. You must have one for the th350 for the 3 speed. I got pictures (some place) if you need them

Yes, the car had the 200-4r trans from the factory and most definatley had overdrive. Seems i just have to move the crossmember forward (when the new one from Jegs gets here). 😀

yes sir, you need to use the th350 Xmember bolted into the forward mounting holes and not the 200-4r (rear) - glad we resolved this for ya

Well the only thing i noticed now (while patiently waiting on my new parts 😀 ) is that there are another set of holes on the driver side framerail for the new crossmember but there is no second set on the passenger side. Am i still to use the same mounting holes on the driver side???

that is correct. There is just one set on the passenger side .... the crossmembers are just THAT different. My 81 (I swapped the 200-4r into it) required an extension of the driver's side frame to mount a factory 200-4r member in.
I don't have any pictures of the pass side, but it's the same holes the factory th350 crossmember came out of. The extension pictured actually bolted to the th350 driver's side mounting holes and correctly aligns the 200-4r crossmember. There are minor differences in the late A-body 78-81 (82 Gbody) and the 83-88 Gbody frames.
