Does aftermark Spark plugs/wires make a big difference?

Haha ok good to know. Always see them on TV and the hosts like praise the product, guess they have to because there a sponsor... I just want to upgrade those parts of the motor for now. The MSD Wires would have to be better in performance and efficenicy vs the Crappy Delphi wires i have now right?

Honestly, if you are running a stock ignition setup/stockish engine, I do not believe you will see a difference (other than in your wallet). That's just my opinion on the subject. I usually run AC Delco or Bosch plugs and the same on the wires, unless I am working on a high performance application that includes an upgraded ignition system. In that case I've used wire sets from MSD and Pertronix with success. As for spark plugs, I feel most are pretty much the same. All the "testing" done to make you buy a particular plug is typically done with new plugs. I would like to see these companies provide a Horsepower/Torque/mileage chart after a few thosand miles. I suspect the difference will be marginal. If you change plugs frequently, get a good quality copper plug. If you would like to go longer between plug changes, go with platinum or irridium.

I agree. I used to stock the E3...in fact we only carried them for motorcycle/small engines when it was time to send them bac on recall..for lack of sales. I looked at them but my opinion is it was all hype. Looked like a plain ole generic plug with some "never before seen new tech looking" tip. Didn't see any extra benefit for the price.

Like the other posters, any new wires would be better than old ones. I only bought the autolite ones cause our store brand were 7.5mm and a 1yr warranty, whereas the autolites were 8.5mm and lifetime...and with my discount, only $7 more. That purchase was more for peace of mind.

Me, Im torn between liking and disliking E3's. I got them in my truck. 2000 S10 4.3 v6. I put them in that and got close to 80,000 miles on them. I put them in, in Spring of 2009. I got Taylor Wires and MSD coil in it and I get better fuel economy now then I ever did. 22mpg on highway!! Truck runs great with over 200,000 miles on it.

I also put them in my wifes Jeep and after 10,000 miles I had a cylinder misfire. and a co-worker put them in his Jeep around the same time and had a cylinder misfire after 30,000miles. His plug number was the same as the wifes Jeep, but different then my truck. I was wondering maybe if just that part number had problems around that same time because my truck runs without a hickup.

But my cutlass, I had NGKs in it and that runs good.

I have never seen an increase in mileage from swapping in performace plugs and wires over using new AC Delco Stuff. However I have seen aftermarket wires ( both performance brands and cheapies ) break down quicker over time. Causing radio interference and mis-fires.

My DD Safarivan and Impala only get them GM stuff. For the Monte I used the Taylor Universal wires to get around the headers and allow me to cut to length ( although I am pretty sure thats where my faint radio interference whine is coming from )

IMO for the 305 I would use the stock GM stuff right down to the cap and rotor.

BTW the stock GM wires are extra long so the wires can run down the back of the engine block, then up the side and behind the manifolds. When these cars were new there were clips on the block to hold them in place.
