Doodge 3.9L Turd

I did find something that pointed to the ASD relay being next to the fuel pump relay. It's one of those micro jobs like GM uses, and they can be junk sometimes. I just want to jump it out for diagnostic purposes.
Yes, the coil wire was cooked. That's why the wires got replaced.
The pick up coil is on the way.

Did a hall effect switch on a 5.2 not long ago. Dude replaced the egr valve on the back of the intake and, like magic, no start. The switch wiring was crushed flat under the valve. Replaced it and bam, works.

My sister had a 90's Neon she was having trouble with. The DTC'S pointed me to the cam sensor. The replacement sensor came with a pigtail. When I went to splice it in, I found the problem. The insulation on the harness was failing. It was literally falling off the wires in large sections. It was a gooey crumbly mess. I taped it up the best I could, got it going and told her to get rid of it.

Yeah, those trucks are pretty crappy, I own one. Do her a favor and stick the rag in and light.

The 3.9 was Ok in town but was so dangerously underpowered on the highway it was scary even with 3.91 gears. Removing the air box opening restriction and adding a Super Turbo muffler made it barely acceptable. Also if the battery was down on charge a bit, it would forget how to idle. My Daughter drove in second gear on the highway, the factory gear indicator and the oil light came on. Changed the oil and was making a horrible squeaking sound. Did the supposedly easy 5.9 swap. Well the trans has issues. Shows lock up converter open with either a modified or factory 5.9 computer, OD and TCC controlled with toggle switches. I spliced in with a factory 5.9 harness, #7 and #8 injectors. Soldered the new ends for the other injectors as they are different on a 5.9. The factory actually had a grey plastic piece blocking the pins for #7 and #8. I checked with my manual and every online source along with that numbered plastic piece tells me they are wired right. Guess what? Neither computer fires #7 or #8 injector. I had to jumper off the injector that fires before #7 and #8. When first hooked up actually runs quite well. Gets more jerky and shitty running as time goes on. Towing sucks *ss, especially in the hills. Oh and my Daughter overheated and cracked the Magnum heads. I put gaskets in and the heads, made it an hour away, one head completely gone, pressurizing the coolant big time. Because I own this ****ing thing, I bought Ram EQ heads, good for 2 years. I had the Mr Gasket head gaskets fail this winter, great times. I used all the Felpro gaskets with 100 KM on them, so far, so good. If I own this thing any longer, looking at 5 more years. The 4x4 is also sub par, just heavy enough to sink but not heavy enough to float over snow. My 94 Z71 would go through way more. I almost bought a Street Demon 750 and TPS for it because Dodge uses a cable and TPS setup to control shifts, hokey sh*t. That along with a Magnum RPM air gap intake and SB Chrysler HEI copy distributor is the only way I think I can stand driving this pile any longer. I think spring time it will happen. Tell her to flee, flee for her life from that POS.

Things were looking bleak after replacing the cam sensor. Everything else in the ignition system was new. I went out on a long branch looking for this "5 way splice on the orange 5v reference wire". It was rumored to be in the main harness between the #3&5 injector leads. I chased it over the back of the block, and still couldn't find it. Only then did I start actually diagnosing stuff. Found the new crank sensor putting out a constant 5v. Pull it out of the hole, and voltage dropped off. So, i commenced to stacking washers. I aborted ship at 3 on each bolt, then called my parts guy. Ended up exchanging the crank sensor out for a defective Planted the new one, measured on the meter, and fired that mutha up. I went through my whole bag of tricks prior to actually finding the problem. Remind me not to buy one of these!
