Not necessarily, I am running a 97 5.7 vortec block and it came factory machined for the mechanical pump. It must be rare. It came out of an HD truck.

The block casting didn't change. The pump opening was covered because it was a fuel injected engine. The cam in that engine should not have a lobe on it for the pump. I have a GM roller cam and it has the lobe on it for the fuel pump

As long as the block has the fuel pump boss any decent machine shop can drill the pushrod hole

it has the fuel pump boss,,maybe when i freshen it up next time,,ill have it done,,,gonna go run it down the road and see how it runs with my replacement pump,,be right back,,,cheers

Can't one just use a GM intank fuel pump like the ones used in the TBI V6 MCs or the turbo Buicks?
