HI FOLKS,
I have swapped in a 454 and an 8.5 diff into a 79 ElCamino with a TH 350
I intend to put in a TH400 or a 700R4 eventually. Will I need a differant length drive shaft for each of my "whims"

This depends on what tailshaft you have for your th350... 6", 9", or 12"?

It also depends on if you have a 4", 9", or 13" tailshaft on the th400.

Doesn't depend on the 700/r4 cuz you'll need a new length driveshaft with whichever th350 you have.

Also remember all these transmissions have different mounting points, so you'll need a crossmember extension/move the crossmember/ or new crossmember with either.

The only swap I could see where you might get away with using your current driveshaft is a th350 with 9" tailshaft to a th400 with 9" tailshaft. So the short answer is yes. But it's only around 100$ to lenghten or shorten and balance the driveshaft
