driveshaft stripes

Anybody know what the purpose is of the two yellow stripes on the driveshaft?

my guess would be a length marker from the factory....i remember when it was "cool" to paint you 4x4 driveshaft like a candy cane

I think some drag cars (and I mean high powered stuff) do that to see if their drive shaft is twisting.
