Driveshaft Stuck in 86 Cutlass

I would pull the transmission mount bolts, motor mount bolts, lift the motor up and forward a few inches. Driveshaft should slide off from transmission yoke a little. then pry bar the drive shaft forward from the rear to see if can break free.

I think you are going about this the wrong way. If I want to remove my driveshaft, I certainly wouldn't jack the front end up. By doing that you obviously have little room to work with. Also , when you do pull the driveshaft, trans fluid will run out. Chock the front wheels and jack up the rear axle. This will give you more room to wedge a crowbar in there to pop it out..timo22

I did it my way as described and it worked safely for me as someone put an 86 driveshaft in my 78. The fluid will fall out either way just need a catch pan underneath to catch it. All you are doing is raising motor, sliding two inches forward and setting back down. I used mine on a lift so after moving engine forward, I raised the car and pulled driveshaft from below. No mess and totally safe

Any updates?

Not yet. I haven't had a chance to get in and try anything. Between not feeling and a busy weekend schedule, I haven't gotten in to try anything.

Finally got back into the garage to work on the driveshaft and am happy to report that it's out. I picked up a different prybar from Harbor Freight a couple of weeks ago. Putting the rear end on jack stands definitely helped get better access. With a little coaxing, I was able to get the drive shaft out.

Thanks for all of the help!

No problem. Appreciate all of the input.

Last several weeks have been crazy between planned events and unplanned work issues, which is what caused the delay.

Came out much easier today than I was expecting. I was fully prepared to heat it.
