Finishing up a big block Chevy build in an 86 Olds 442. Need a drive shaft for a short tail shaft turbo 400 to a Grand National 8.5 rear end. It's a street car. Anyone have any ideas outside of having a custom shaft built?

Determine the length of shaft you need universal center to universal center with your yokes and put a call out. New shafts aren't that much and you can always have yours cut. I believe the 400 is aprox 3/4 inch longer than that your original trans so yours should be close.

I had my driveshaft cut and balanced, after that was done when I found out it would have only cost me another $80 to have a new shaft I could have kicked myself...

Ebay "nascar drive shaft"

Bunch of old race shops dump 3.5" 1350 U joint shafts for cheap. I got the one for my 2+2 for under $100 shipped. I did put new U joints and a slip yoke in since they come T400 output and I had a t56, but its a good option if you get lucky and they have the right length.
