drum brake assembly issues!!!!

I got three different diagrams to put my rear drum brakes back together but one has no actuator link and the new assembly i bought from autozone doesnt come with it, do i need it or no????? and if not can anyone point me in the rght direction(video/or past disscusion/diagram) anything helps thanks for help

Every drum system I've done has that link in there. A, F and G bodies at home and all three recent new brake jobs, all had that link. I believe that link also doubles as the return spring landing point if nothing else. Without the link, you may be stretching the spring too far trying to get it to the upper pin.
