drum brake help

im having a difficult time getting the retaining ring for the wheel cylinders on and off. is there a special tool for it?

they're really just a major pain in the balls. try, try, try again. and make sure that the backing plate doesn't have rust patches. i had an old malibu that constantly dropped the D/S cyl because of that.
