ok so i have never dyed anything in my whole life so i was wondering if anyone had any tips for me or what kind of dye has worked best for others in the past. half of my seatbelts are blue and the other half is that orange/brown color.

I would recommend SEM dye. I used some with their primer/adhesion promoter on the back seat of a 66' Mustang. Since you want to use black, it should cover any other color. The seat was blue/white, and it was re-dyed black, and in the end almost looked as good as the front seats which had new black covers.

You just have to make sure you clean the piece good with wax & grease remover with a scotch-brite pad so you get into the grain. You also have to apply the dye in many light coats, and remember to use the adhesion promoter.

We are taught in my collision repair class that you are NEVER to dye seatbelts. They say it will adversly affect the strength.

As mentioned above for safty reasons seat belts should NOT be dyed.....they are made from a nylon type webbing and solvents can damage the nylon...and there are many people who have tried to dye seat belts only to have the dye rub off on their clothes.....

huh i never knew that. my uncle has always dyed his seatbelts if he wanted them another color. i guess i should tell him not to now. i guess ill just have to buy some black seatbelts in the future. thanks for preventing me from going through the windshield guys!

if it's only you your worried about then it won't be too expensive to change your belt and die the rest of the belts in the car......

nice to see that your more interested in safety than looks......belts aren't too expensive and if you don't use the back seat too often you could change the front belts and tuck the back ones behind the back seat when not in use...

Hey Ive used SEM paint on my whole interior the stuff works great I did it all black it looks great. Make sure you use the cleaner and adhesive promoter or itll scrape off super easy. Also dont use duplicolor vinyl paint that stuff is junk. SEM or nothing

^^^ I think he was only wanting to die the seat belts and as posted a few times above dyeing a seat belt affects it's strength and purpose....
