in my regal i have a ugly grandma brown interior. the doors are going to have a aluminum inner and the carpet i can dye. i was just wondering if anyone has used some kind of dye on the dash, i would like it black. i am not going to take it out, and i do not want to paint it. your suggestions would be great to here. thanks

I know you can either dye it or use a special paint for vinyl. My friend dyed a tan dash blue years ago and it turned out really nice. I am interested in hearing what folks have to say here too. I just bought a brown dash for the Monte that will need to change.

when i did mine, first thing i did was cleaned it really well, after that i wiped it down with rubbing alcohol, which is supposedly a good primer for vinyl dye. then i sprayed the dash with a product called vht vinyl plastic and carpet dye. looks like it left the factory that way.

I did my dash with SEM vinyl paint. You want to scrub the dash down with a degreaser then wipe it dry. I then use a scuff pad to scuff the dash then wipe it down real good. The proper way to keep the vinyl spray paint from chipping or looking like it was spray painted is to do multiple light coats. I usually do two light coats then scuff it up lightly again to remove what isnt sticking then do a light coat let it dry then continue to do light coats until evenly covered.I have never had anyone be able to tell that i dyed a dash they usually think i bought a new dash. Hope this helps

I did the same thing Rockstar did... turned out awesome 😀

SEM for sure they make GM colors too.
That's the ONLY dye we ever use.
If you use their clear coat on top of it it's even better. It will hold up for high traffic and high sun areas longer.

You have to use it when it's NOT raining or too humid otherwise it won't turn out right. If you have a good climate controlled area that's the best.
Don't forget to ventilate it's pretty smelly.

I'll also vote for SEM. What I like to do, is remove the dash, strip it down to just the plastic pieces, then clean it real good with Simple Green. Follow that with a green scotch brite pad, used with light pressure, to give it a tooth. Then, wipe it down with a prep solvent to get it free of dirt, dust, and grease. A tack cloth may now be used to remove the last little bits of dust if you're anal. Then, spray the dye in light coats, getting full coverage by your third or fourth coat. It is important not to use too much as it will peel if it is too thick. Pus, it would fill in the grain and not look right.
