I dyed the interior of a monza I had about 15 years ago. Worked great.
It was an original red interior. But most of it was faded or wrecked. So I went to the junkyard and got green door panels, one brown and one black armrest, brown visors, brown console, green shifter plate, and cut out a chunk of red carped from a car to replace the worn out spot under the gas pedal.
I cleaned everything good, went over all the non-fabric with a scotch-brite pad, and then wiped it with rubbing alcohol. Then I used many light (and I mean very light) coats and it turned out great. Everything matched, it looked like it just came from the factory. I drove the car for about 10 years, and only had two problems. A small spot on the console eventually wore away a bit (smaller than a dime), but this was probably after 6-7 years. And if you don't know what a monza is, its basically a Vega, but better. And the door panels have carpet alont the bottom 4 inches. Being such a small car, my feet usually rubbed against this carpet, and every 2-3 years it would fade off. But a quick touch up and it was all good again.
But no other problems. I was worried that the dye would come off on my clothes, but it never happened.
I cant remember what brand I used. But it was the cheap stuff from Canadian Tire.
So have no worries, if you clean it good and do thin coats. It will turn out great.
