hey guys. Might sound crazy but is anyone running a dz302 Chevy motor in there g body??? I'd really like to hear about it and what everyone thinks of the motor itself. Thanks

If you have a DZ 302 sell it and buy what you want - it's worth a lot. The DZ is a high revving engine and weak on low end. 11 to 1 compression and rated @ 376HP. If your car was set-up for it you could expect 7.80 1/8th

it's a race engine that was built to live at high revs all it's life. It'll rev over 7,000 all day long but don't expect much tire smoke getting there

The dz302 also has a mechanical cam that you will have to make periodic lash adjustments to, and the compression is too high for pump gas.
This engine is best suited for a numbers matching restoration, with Today's technology you can build a high revving, aluminum headed, roller cammed, stroker engine that will actually have the torque to get your car moving.

Thanks guys. Keep it coming please. I was thinking it would be something different in my Malibu. 3000lb car with 456 rear. It's gonna b 60 over, world heads, all forged bottom, and haven't decided on cam yet believe it's a Vic jr intake. It's up in the air still but I think it would be unique. Please tell me more.

Now I feel dumb because I didn't say it's a fresh built motor. It's not exactly a stock dz. all new modern components.

Super Chevy built a 302 years ago with a forged rotating assembly, AFR 210 heads and a big roller cam, single plane intake and a 750 carb and made over 500 horse but you would probably need a 4500+ converter to get it moving along with the big rear gear.
I like how they made it look like a factory engine and even machined the AFR's to mimic the factory cast irons and painted them orange.
I personally like big cubic inch engines that can also rev high.

I built one last year for my buddys 69 Z28. Instead of using the solid lift cam I installed a hydraulic 30 30 duntov replica made by comp, nostalgia listing. Pistons were 11:1 forged . To get the compression down I used a set of Dart sportsman heads with a 74 cc chamber. Checked the compression with the whistle and it was 9:3:1. Strapped the mighty mouse to the dyno and she made 396 hp @ 7300. He likes it but, ya have to spin her up to make power. Gears and torque converter r a must in a automatic. His is a 4 speed. All in all the sound cool with the chambered exhaust.
