I'm thinking about welding up the holes and installing round bowtie mirrors like I have on my 70 nova. Has anyone done this and what do you guys think? The mirrors will be relocated up a bit on the 45 degree surface.

That's exactly the way I'm going to go with mine. I had already welded up all the holes and was going to go with the '86 + mirrors, but decided they looked kinda clunky. The older Chevy mirrors are more graceful looking imo.
I think they'll look awesome on your 'Bu.
This is the style I chose.

I really dislike having to remove the door panels to take of the mirrors and don't really care about the remote function. I'm getting ready to repaint the car and want to keep things simple. I just put new mirrors on my nova and think they'll look great on the malibu. Filling the holes with my wire feeder. pics to follow....

Thats funny, I was looking at those mirrors too 😀
Im not a fan of those body colored mirrors that came on my wagon.
Loneagle, being you have those on your Nova.
Do you know exactly how wide the base of those mirrors are?
I was wondering if they would fit on the diagonal body line on the top my Bu doors.

I also don't care about the remote function. I was originally looking at small streetrod type mirrors, but the way they attach will interfere with the glass. I think these mirrors would be a perfect fit. I like the way they fasten down. Very simple design.

Dave, I think they should fit fine near the glass on the upper body line. Infact, there's a guy on Ebay from Long Island selling these mirrors. I also like the bowties etched in. They would go well with your Nova/Camaro/Chevelle type hubcaps.
I may also go with the steelies and dogdish caps. I found a list of GM cars that had the 15 x 7, 4 3/4 x 5 wheels.
I'll be on the hunt. Although it might be harder to find the caps than the rims.

Loneagle, some pics would be cool. I'm anxious to see them.

OK, got em installed and the the positioning is correct on the 45 degree surface. the width is about 1" at the widest point on the mirror gasket. I'm very happy, Much nicer look than the sport mirrors.

PLEASE post some pics. I would really like to see them mounted on the Malibu. It would also give me a little incentive to get off my *ss and get a set. ..and to also see how cool they look. 8)

Here you go.
