My guess is the pump is getting hot not the fuel or anything in the engine bay.
The pump should be mounted lower so it does not have to work as hard.
Ele pumps don't like to suck, they like to push.
I use a metal mesh filter before the pump and a paper before the carb.

I bet if you remove the filter before the pump it will be fine.
You are making the pump work too hard, it gets hot, pressure drops, then the pump stalls.
